It is good to have someones input from the outside. All to often are we left to stir in our own pot. I wish that they would figure something out b/c as it is unless you have insurence they dont LIKE to mess with you. I was shot in May of 08, I lay on a table for 4 hours with my foot (where i was shot) slightly lifted. Before anyone decided to come have a look at me, and was asked about a half dozen times if i had insurence. Now...I'm bleeding out of 2 holes in my foot, and laying in a nice new hospital. With what seemed to be plenty of staff, seeings how they all came in and gawked at my foot out of curiosity, for that long of a period of time?? C'mon seriously?? I dont care if it costs more, some form of universal healthcare is in order. Otherwise these doctors will just keep going on and on as they do.
But, I'm no politician. And I dont vote, so however they wanna run it, is their call.

Yikes - you got shot? I once heard a horror story (from a RN medic friend of mine) about a Marine who was hit in the shoulder and the bullet zinged around inside him and finally exited straight out of his manhood! The story might have been bollocks (pardon the pun) but it still made every guy in the room wince and cross their legs!
Worst thing that's ever happened to me was a dodgy blank which split like a banana inside the receiver.

Yeah I've been shot. LOL Might as well tell the entire story the board might get a kick outa hearing it.
My friend (whom i've known for 15+ years) and I decided to go out target shooting. So we find a nice remote location on a friends farm and set up some targets. I've got my M44 Mosin, he's got a .357 cal revolver.
Well I shoot his revolver, he shoots my Mosina, I put his .357 on safety hand it back to him. Then recieve my m44. As i'm clearing the chamber of the last spent cartridge, he loads his revolver. I start thumbing the rounds in and BAM!! ( now granted he was standing a good foot away from me, but i coulda reached out and touched the fella). So close i could feel his body heat. I felt the shock go through what I thought was the ground. Needless to say, I didnt feel anything. Then as we are getting over the shock of *OH SH*T* Blood starts pouring outa my boot and my foot goes stiff, I look down and theres a hole in and out.
Needless to say I hit the ground hard. Screaming b/c the pain was off and on. It was more of a shock thing i think. I called my mother, he ran inside to get a ride to the hospital. He comes out crying im laughing, my mom thinks im joking and hangs up on me. He calls her back and says its for real we meet her at the hospital. (an hour away) go figure. And then I begin my journey of laying on the ER Bed for 4 hours. Atleast i had two shots of morphine, which did nothing for my foot, but plenty for my self esteem. B/c every lil nurse that came in there i think i asked out a hundred times ;D
It wasnt all bad. I got very lucky, and it only went through the meat of the arch. Two scars about 3 inches apart from top to bottom of my foot. Very little bone damage. And it was actually rather standable. I took no pain pills the entire time i couldnt walk. I was hopping around for about 1.5 months...
Needless to say, him and I dont talk anymore. And the lil bugger hasnt paid my hospital bill as he so promised. Hell he didnt even give me the .357 like he said he would also. Oh well, good story and scar for me!

Nasty! The importance of keeping loaded firearms pointed down range eh?
I can still remember all the NSP drills from years ago (for the SA80 back in my OTC days) because they were taught them again and again by the DS until we knew them in our sleep! Safety, dry fire, One eyed trouser snake, hook, and look, ease springs, safety and dry fire again.

Da! Never did I think in a thousand years I'd be shot.
Now I'm pretty sure, if I get in the ocean. A shark will take a leg.
Or that im going to get bit by a deadly snake!

Really? I Mod. on 1 forum and 'am an MP on another one. I can think of 1 time on the forum I Mod. That I was forced to lock threads and boot one person. What were all the others times that I "had a stroke and would have strapped on their testosterone injectors and began beating their chests, making threats, deleting posts and eventually locking the thread. " Just curious? DaaHVeed Tovarischi, I am glad to see that you folks have leveled out. I have to say you folks really covered the field but you did it without getting too crazy. LOL! You see, other Mods like Dahveeeeed, Martin, Gunny and the like on their forums would have had a stroke and would have strapped on their testosterone injectors and began beating their chests, making threats, deleting posts and eventually locking the thread. Perhaps even a New Zea lander threatening to use his baton on forum members. That won't happen here unless you use foul language or go so crazy that your ranting is even more than I can take. Censorship is not how we roll on this forum. We prefer the more mature route. I will take the postings which deviate from the original post and move it to heated discussions where it can live or die by the choice of the collective. Again I thank all of you for not going nuclear and making a real mess out of things. As always keep up the good work and try to make this forum an exchange of ideas which are constructive and useful. Good luck and good hunting. Sincerely, Dima (one who does not micro manage like other MODS)

DaaHVeed,
I cannot believe that you are a moderator on the evil forum?! We all know that the evil mods are anti-Russian reenacting. They never post pics of our comrades for the POTW. I know they receive tons of quality pics on a daily basis. You better hide my tovarischi, don't advertise that banner on the evil forum or Martin, Mountineer, Ozzy, and the 5 Dave's will ban you!

I'm starting to be discouraged about ww2 reenacting! Way to many politics going on. Makes me kind of not want to do it.

Take heart, Komrade Devyn !
It's the US ... hard to avoid politics in any activity here ... I avoided politics for about 8 years in reenacting and then started a unit ... and then the party political poopie really hit the fan ! Oh well, think of it as good training if you ever want a career in govt. ! Speaking of which, check out "In the Loop" a great new British comedy about politics.
As for Putin, I think he and Medvedev are GREAT ! They have restored honor and strength to that nation, and done wonders for the economy that Yeltsin nearly bankrupted with his cronyism, nepotism and mob connections. Can you imagine Ohbummer trying to deal with Chechnya or Georgia ! Ha !
Odd it must sound coming from an old cold warrior who used to guard Uncle Sam's nukes, eh Komrades? I like the current regime there. The proper mix of old and new I think. I wish we could get a good handle on this nation like they do there.
Thanks for coming out of the anonymity closet, Komrade Guest Rob. Now I will behave myself, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity for some mindless anonymous commie troll bashing ! Yes, I can get nasty at times, but I reserve it for trolls... we have had some anon 'guests' here in the past who were lurkers from that 'other'ww2 forum who were here only to start trouble, and you should have seen even the Mods here trash those trolls ! LOL ! so I just couldn't resist !
Glad to hear you are merely a provocatively academic Brit, and not a terror troll from the dark side of the ww2 forum guild ... such lurkers are given no quarter ... they are quickly renditioned to the Heated Discussion thread where they are dissected until they limp home to their trollish grottos, bleeding and defanged ! LOL !
I will send the Piranha Bro's back to worrying about Spiny Norman and to leave you alone ! Really !
I do advise giving "The Soviet Story" a look-see however, its been endorsed by "The Economist" and a wide variety of MEP's from the EU, and has a variety of well known academicians contributing to it, and as you said, that even the conservatives in the EU are more liberal than the average old cold warrior like me, so if THEY liked it and thought it was even handed, then I think you would find it of value.
I would also check out many of the fine films in the International Historic Films Catalogue, esp, Harvest of Despair, and The Baltic Tragedy. And remember it was a group of French Liberals that penned "The Black Book of Communism", repleat with the various body counts attributable to the various 'worker's paradises' that have littered the planet with bones.
If it makes you feel any better I am (blush) currently wearing my embroidered Red Guards t-shirt under my security uniform as I type ! Uncle Reagan Help ME !!! LOL !!! I have no problem with Russian or other eastern peoples, actually, I like their culture, its the whole red terror thing and govt. abuse of citizens I find abhorant, regardless of who does it.
As an earlier poster said, without a whole generation of stuff shirted demigogues and their bloody conflict, we would not be enjoying this ironically satisfying hobby (I paraphrase and embellish).
I Thought you were a Brit, Robby ! Blimey ! Only the Brits like academics for academics banter sake ! LOL ! I used to adore Cromwell Ltd.'s video military history series, the ones with the companion books with every video ... they had a balding chap from Sandhurst Military Academy narrating them with all sorts of lovely graphics. My favorites dealt with the Napoleonic Period, and the Arthurian period through Robert the Bruce's Battle at Bannockburn.
So, do you reenact RKKA over there in the UK ? I have seen at least one rather spruce unit over there, repleat with a T34 I think with pix on the web.
And no, I doubt you employ teabagging as a ritual form of amusement... just couldn't resist the similitude ! LOL ! I guess I am a victim of living next to the Cheaplaughs, and have to buy everything they do ! LOL !
Give Prince Charles a salute from me !
Oldy Moldy Coldy Warrior Volodymyr: who is actually decended from a Baronet in Wales... ( but I did put in a plug that Jeff Beck should get his OBE to the Royal's staff email ! cheeky me !, blimey ! if that wanker Sir Paul can get one, Jeff should be a DUKE ! that man's guitar should be re-named Excaliber ! )
Huzzah !
Za Rodinu !

Well, here let me give you moron farbs something to talk about for a week.
Deyvndumbass, PLEASE DON'T REENACT!!! If you and your bud are stupid enough to handle weapons that unsafely, no one needs you around hurting others!!!
I usually delete only the stupid fecal matter. SOOOOOO....get a clue from that!!!
Most of your impressions suck! That is why nobody wants to post photos of them. Do some research, something beyond making blanks.
Who was the drunk that they had to take his weapon away? Is that winner/wiener here?
Now with all this talk about tea bagging and testosterone, I wonder if this is the closet queer RKKA reenacting forum?
Have fun exploding about this one!!!

Dima shoot me down? Nah, he is too stupid. I always get tired of reading his dribble.
He bores the crap out of me.
The only person that I get worried about getting shot down by, is you and your moronic friend!
Love and Kisses!!!

Oh, did that upset you? Your the ones talking about a bunch of retarded stuff.
If you taught me, one thing about the RKKA, I would be amazed. Just one thing, that isn't too hard is it?
Your come backs are really lame.

Martoon the spitoon baffoon and ultramarroon ...
donkey nibbly bits, Conley Sluss is more articulate than you, and we once thought he was a recent immigrant his English was so bad ... you just think poorly Martoon ... no excuses whatsoever for your sophmoric drivel ! With Conley, he only posted when he ran out of meds, or woke up from a bender, or got out of the slammer, so what's you're excuse ? the hookers you use won't give you a rimmer for your foodstamps ? 3rd wife kick you out once she finally figured she could get a better man after going on Weightwatchers ?
Wuzzamatter Martoon ? not enough gay action on the ww2 amateurboards forum ? so you came trolling over here, eh ? sorry fella, we don't like sheep defilers here or kiddie chasers, so you better go back into hiding ! Amerca's most Wanted placed a bug in your stolen Yugo and they're circling the paddy wagons !
Try somethng better than phillie blunts and Olde English 800 before you try your bargain basement harranging over here, short-on-brains, you're clueless.
And as for evil, you are lame at that too. You don't even pass as irritating ... ZZZzzzzz
oh, you still here Martoon ? don't let the door hit your big Budweiser infested butt on the way out, you've already put us all to SLEEP !!!
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL !!!!

Ah well... fuggetabutit. Shake on it?
Reenact in the UK? Heh, noooooo, that be in the past!
I wanted to take the whole thing to another level so I am one of three foreigners who does reenactment in Russia full-time.
There's my friend who's been out there for years, me, and a guy from Louisiana who lives in Petrozavodsk.
It's possible to see the vestigal remains of the former Soviet state in Russia, not just with the statues and building decorations (those are just retro-cool and aren't bothering anyone) it's the bureaucracy, and the way people can write long critical lists of people and things detailing all their 'crimes'.
An example? The cleaner for the stairways getting irritated about empty cigarette boxes being left on the window ledges and writing a (signed and dated) list of the various types of packet found and dates they left, as if it's the end of the world!
It doesn't happen very often but, that's an example of pure, 100%, old school Soviet!
Apply that kind of pettyness to all things and you start to see why the place began to fall apart.
Devyn - it's not just WWII, it's ALL reenacting in ALL countries that has politics and that criticism of your weapons handling drills, that was cheap, because it was you who was shot by your friend, and second you paid dearly for his carelessness.
I reckon getting drilled in the foot with a .357 bullet would make someone pay really close attention to handling and safety drills forever - not the opposite!
I always find people cover firearms with this "Wugghh mystic aura" that they just don't have.
They're tools. Interesting tools, but still tools. That's it. Treat them with respect and they will work for you, muck about with them and they can kill you or others!
You don't see people boasting about their superb chainsaw handling skills - it's just known that they can be bloody dangerous and you've got to have your wits about you using one!
