Boris,
It can be approched two different ways.
One way is to look at when you plan to attend most events and where.
If it will be more during warm times of the year with lush undergrowth then the green splotch camo would be better.
If ti is going to be cooler and or more of a fall or dead brush issue then the tan splotch may be more useful.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Dima

Dima is absolutely correct, use common sense to determine your order of purchase for camo.

Tovarischi, I have a pattern for the Splotch camo suit.....including splotch Stencils. I would like to get it posted to Dimas archives but getting that large of a pattern into PDF is a challenge due to my lack of gear. The splotch design is simple and can be reproduced with very little effort. it only takes a few variations of the splotch and you can cover a suit very easily. Grass suits are a little more involved due the large number of "button holes" which need to be placed into the fabric for the ties to pass through. However, my suggestion is to see if Trident still has any of the color print error leaf camo suits and or coveralls still for sale. At $27.00 dollars a piece you will have the perfect pattern for making all of the variants of one or two piece cammo suits since they use the same construction and only the camo patterns are different.www.tridentmilitary.com/Soviet-WW2/camouflage-winter-clothing.htmlIf it is worth doing then spend just a little cash ($27 vs $85) and you can make camo suits to your hearts content. I have made several sets of winter, summer and fall splotch pattern suits. I plan to work on others such as the tri color and leaf pattern. The leaf pattern is tricky for me to screen print with the equipment I have. Please think this over. Sincerely, Dima

That's Amoeba.

Tovarischi,
That is why I avoid the whole issue by referring to it with the proper eastern term of "splotch" pattern as opposed to the western designation of amoeba.
Although several of us have considered taking the whole amoeba camo approach one step further and producing Paramecium, Spirogyra and Diatom patterns to see who would buy it.
LOL!
Sincerely,
Dima

Better yet, just leave camo to sniper, scouts, and Cavalry.
...or just ignore the whole camo issue.

Tovarisch,
Boris and myself are part of the scout / sniper squad of the 416th. This is where Boris' interest in the camo is derived from.
In fact my focus of research throughout the various time periods I portray(ACW, SPAN-AM,WWII, Vietnam) falls upon light infantry, rifle, recon forces. Thus I end up researching camouflage and field craft techniques relevant to each time period.
Now when you speak of Soviet cavalry and camouflage are you referring to the recon elements of the branch or the branch as a whole?
Sincerely,
Dima

Tovarisch;
Recon, scouts, and sniper sections, as camo was not general issue to Cav as a whole. While there is some minor photographic evidence that some Russian Cav units did wear camo as a general rule, my unit, a Ukrainian unit, would not have been issued, or worn camo generally.
As a matter of fact, I encourage my scouts, et al to fabricate their own camo (ghillie suit style) rather than rely of production suits, as being Ukrainian, we might not have even gotten suits issued at all.
