It seems, that with the formentioned withdrawl for various times of alot of good RKKA reenactors, the impression has taken a couple of steps back.
In the past month, I have become alarmed, by some of the pre concieved old time notions. Old thoughts have been destroyed by research and been lost to newer RKKA reenactors. They are therefore inventing thier own versions or repeating old research. We need to do more to help these individuals. They are a step backwards in the improvement of our impressions.
I hope that we keep our eye out for this and help these people from making huge mistakes.

Well yeah. It's good and bad. Some of the "Old Guard" RKKA reenactors would not listen to research. Often it was met with this is the way we are doing it and we will not change. Happens a lot in silly war too. These reenactorisms are so entrenched that it becomes a widely accepted belief that it is correct. You ask why they do it this way and the answer is because that is the way they were taught, and it is the way it was done for as long as they can remember. I think overall material authenticity is improving. So much more is available now than even just 5 years ago. Perhaps this is also due to the drying up of the surplus market. They just aren't making that stuff anymore, and thus it's starting to weed out the post war garbage that can ruin an impression. However the more things get better the worse they stay. The area that some of the old guard excelled in was motivation to get folks together for larger than 30 man events. Like Gruber back in Nov 2002. Problem now is when folks attempt that they are met with resistance. Everyone wants the event in their backyard and don't want to travel. Only going to get worse as now gas prices jumped .16/gallon here yesterday alone. There must be a solution and I do not know what it is. Perhaps down the line it will become apparent, and all will revert to the "good old days." Who knows. LOL It's for folks smarter than me to figure out. I do have a theory on the personality of the typical russian reenactor and how that effects the hobby both good and bad. However that is still being worked on, and I just don't have the time to write a novel on it. Perhaps I can get a government research grant and a porsche. Research scientists need porsches. Hehehehehe It's my crack pot theory and a porsche can help with research. -dave 416th

I think the economy has alot to do with it. We are not as stable as we were 5 years ago. Gas prices have taken alot of peoples traveling money. On the other hand, Airline tickets are cheap. The issue becomes getting there and the hassle of taking weapons. The money saved on plane fairs is then dumped into a rental car and gas. Simple family economics has come into play.
Reproduction stuff is wonderful. There are things that I didn't think we would see. Some of the newer surplus stuff rolling out of the former CCCP is outstanding also. The issue is, you can get all this stuff, but knowing what was used and what was not, becomes a question.
I don't think we need to go to the good old days. Those days had some issues that were not that wonderful. I am more concerned with Osprey being our standard, not a beginning point.
