Midwest Board: HRS threads locked down

Well it looks like our Soviet Forum will be the last bastion of free speech regarding HRS "issues."

The HRS threads have been locked down on the Midwest forum.

The WWII forum won't allow such discussions.

So anyone who needs to express opinions on the HRS matter or those who are working on fixing the problem are welcome to post here.

Well less of a lock out than a boycott has happened to the By-Laws Board; AKA "the dialog between Greg Lee and Elliott James about the by-laws".

Konstantine and yourself did start a new thread today on that board and I responded to both.

There is, of course, a difference between free speech and productive speech.

No one has posted to the By-Laws since May 31st.

I like productive communication and discussion as much as the next man. But like its being pointed out again, and again, without the facts, all that can occur is speculation and back and forth on secondhand information.

The BOD has stated that officially until they get all their ducks in a row, they are not going to be discussing the issue. Fine, but they should not be that naive and expect the issue to disappear due to their incommunication. If anything its only fueling speculation and increasing the outrage.

It's sad as a former official of the old HRS (Point editor 1985-1987)* I get to watch the "new and improved" HRS go through the same style of petty tyrants and idiots in charge as were in power in the 1980's.

Dave has threatened to shut down his entire Midwest Reenactor Board because "he's tired"of the storm of protests over the HRS BoD's actions.** Regardless if he does or doesn't follow through with his intent, people will continue to talk, discus, and mull over what has happened in the HRS this year. Dave will also forever be associated with this current BoD no matter what he does or how he does it (from this point onwards).

If the HRS BoD members had thought it out first, they would have put everything out in clear view and let the chips fall where they may and ride out any flak. Even if they had only said that none of them could stand Randy anymore and hated his guts, the majority of the HRS membership wouldn't be shaking their heads at this. Instead they stonewalled and hoped that it would just go away. They were wrong, and the HRS is worse for it.

We are all now "children of Watergate, Contragate, Lewinskygate, etc." If elected officers/politications get caught doing something stupid and the public (and press) doesn't get enough information, then we all smell blood in the water and start to circle the poor devil(s) like sharks. As members of this board and others, we have all become internet journalists and our posts are our reports and editorials.

The days of waiting for unit pages/opinions in the Point, Breakthrough, the Front Line, High Ground, etc. are gone, for now in an instant we can connect and inform hundreds (if not thousands) of what we see, hear and how we feel. Back in the 1980s it took weeks, if not months for all the HRS membership to find out what was wrong. Now it takes only minutes (if not quicker) and has made it far tougher for an elected officer to stonewall an issue.

Other WWII reenacting organizations are secretly laughing and licking their chops for the influx of pissed off units and individuals that will head for them in the next year (if not sooner). It won't matter if the TSG (or other groups) is run by the same style of current HRS BoD mangement tactics. The attitude of most will be, "These (insert organization name here) pinheads can't be any worse than the HRS pinheads, and they might not be as bad. Let's go there."

It's not going to be any better until next year, these officers (and whoever they appoint) will be around until December 31, and a lot of more damage may be done until then.

*Historic Note: The editor of The Point wasn't an elected officer, nor did he/she have a vote on the old BoD back in the middle 1980s, but the editor carried a lot of weight in BoD discussions, so the editor and the Registered Agent were considered "officials." It was also considered a "back up plan" by then HRS Secretary-Treasurer John Ong in case the 3 member (at that time) HRS BoD lost officers due to resignation, impeachment, death, or non-payment of dues (the last actually happened!).

** Note: It is Dave's proboard, so he really can do with it as he wishes. He can lock down any thread he desires, so complaining about that is moot.
