I received this today in my e-mail. It is passed on as requested with the same banner as Alan used. It disturbs me. Theft is unacceptable. You will notice the same 'frat boy' behaviour that we had at Harvard IL with blow up dolls.
"Did the headline grab you? I don't mean to disparage the annual WWII Days event at Rockford, IL, this could have happened anywhere. I participated along with my kameraden in the 5thSS "Wiking" Sturmpioniere this year.
Upon awaking Sunday morning, I found various sex toys had been placed under the flap of my tent, on my Kubelwagen and in an ammo crate. They must have spent $40 or more on the gadgets!! Ha-Ha, funny practical joke? Not quite as I noticed that the german helmet that had been placed on the peak of my tent pole was missing!
Fortunately it was only our unit loaner helmet, not my $350 Grigsby personal helmet. Much more could have been stolen and/or damaged while we slept. The "usual suspects" were discussed, but I am in no position to make accusations without any solid evidence. I don't mind that people have a different opinion of me, but theft or vandalisim cannot be condoned in our very expensive, intimate hobby.
The helmet was a postwar border guard M40 style german helmet with a size 60 (I think .. maybe it was 59?) printed on the liner. The chinstrap is not replaceable, being sewn right into the liner. It had been repainted a flat medium/dark green with cheap cammo spray paint, over the fairly glossy nearly black dark green that is still showing when you turn the helmet over to look inside.
So I have a helmet stolen from an otherwise fine event. Please forward this alert to anyone you know in the hobby, whether they participated or not, and post it on any discussion group you participate in ... the kind of morons that would steal or intentionaly damage other people's property may not be able to keep from bragging of their "success". If you have any information about this theft, please forward them to :
