;DThank God the rain wasn't a steady all day thing on Saturday. Although there was rain , it wasn't an event stopper and the crowds came out. ;D Sunday was just great -- why couldn't Saturday have been that nice ? I had a great time and enjoyed seeing all the different impressions and units. I worked the event as an MP and didn't do any fight'n (well battles at least) just policing (and Blank selling) I've herd (rumor) that there were 450 registered this year -- WOW Some of the little skits/battles put on in the village were pretty good. The Field battles were filled with lots of action, vehicles, Reenactors and Pyro-techniques. There were some great vendors and if anyone was lacking in items for their uniform/impression -- they really had no excuses with the vendors that were there, I saw some GREAT prices on lots of stuff.
The USO dance Saturday night in the Newly refurbished Barn was a very nice way to end the day. There also seemed to be some nice day ending activities in some of the encampments.
:oThe Red Army even got into the action in the Village both Saturday and Sunday fighting German SS units and Italian Facist units. ;D
:-/As always with any event, there is is always areas that need improvements or could have been done better and I'm sure the event staff will be addressing those for next year. Please feel free to step forward and advise BUT also assist them. ;D
I did note one kinda negative thing. Some need to remember... this is an HRS event and thus units and reenactors attending from other societies (although very Welcome) DO NEED TO ADHERE TO HRS & SPECIFIC EVENT RULES. Every year we have individuals and units who seem to think that what ever flys in their society or Group & at their societies events or their unit events, also flys at HRS events -- not always the case. We caught some violations (NOT ALL) and tried to address them in a civil easy going manor. I have to say luckily the event sponsors and members of the HRS assisting with observation & enforcement of rules have thick skins. I saw some nasty unwarreted abuse heaped in their directions which could get a person or unit thrown out at many events.
All in all... another Great Rockford event. ;D Midway Village/Museum, Scott Koelling (2nd Panzer, HRS) and all who helped from other units and societies & units should be commended for a good job. I'm looking forward to 2007 already.
