Tovarischi,
Great posting!!!!
Over the past few years I have been collecting any and all images relating to the Soviet Union both pre-war and wartime. This includes non-military images covering civilians in everyday life whether it be on the collective farm or in the cities.
Now add to this the various memoirs I have collected and I have come to the conclusion that the Soviet Union was far from being the backward, rag wearing, poorly educated peasant population we have been led to believe.
When you get a chance do some searching and look at the research regarding population distribution of the USSR. It is interesting to see rural vs urban.
The urban centers were far more cosmopolitan then we realize. Many of the group civilian or street photos I have could easily pass for any major city in Europe.
So it is no surprise to see such nice fashions as being listed for the urban dwellers of the Soviet Union.
Sincerely,
Dima 9th Airborne

William O. Field's collection of over 700 images of Russia and the Caucasus region is also a good source to show the vast differences between rural and city dwellers, particularly of rural areas in Georgia and Dagestan. Most date from the 1920s until 1933.
