A big thank you to all those that showed up. Many have told me that they think this was our best, and most fun Mariongrad in the last couple of years.
Thursday night had us woefully short on German troops, so my son, Squirrely, and I offered to "galvanize" in an effort to balance things out. Well Saturday morning dawned, and the low number of Germans had turned into twice their number it seemed. Combine that with a whole squad of Soviet troops that just "disappeared" and never showed and the situation completely reversed. (That will be the last time I believe the Germans are short, LOL )
However, the ardor and aggressiveness of the RKKA soldiers belied their numbers. This makes two years I've been going there and helping to put the event on, and I honestly think we had more combat and firefights with our small numbers than we do with our larger attendance in the past. One thing that really helped was that everyone was organized, and willing to do what they were told. As usual, the terrain and nature of the event tends to kick one in their posterior, and this time was no exception. This was the only time I have ever attended Mariongrad as a Fascist, and it kicked me as hard physically as it does when I do my usual RKKA portrayal.
If you've hesitated about attending this event in the past because the drive was too long to merit attending such a short, one day event, well keep your calendar open for the third weekend in September. Indications are strong that we will extend that event to be Friday through Sunday noon! I will definitely have to spend my summer getting in shape for that one.

My deepest apologies for the tardiness of this AAR but other matters of greater importance have demanded my attention. None the less here it is.

The event at Marion was as always a good time with good friends and good weather.

Sasha, Brian and I arrived on Friday evening after our long drive just ahead of the last bit of rain which fell on the site. Fortunately there were no sever no storms to block our path this time. During a lull we set up the squad tent and proceed to make it a home. The new walked around to make our introductions with the rest of the folks on site, tell stories and then settled in for a nice bit of rest.

The next morning found us in excellent weather and a real need to hunt down the German invaders. Sadly the numbers were a bit down this time. There were approximately 7 Russians and about twice that many Germans. However, even though the numbers were lower the fighting was just as intense as usual. Soviet forces had1 mortar, 3 sub guns and the rest were rifles. The German forces had two MG teams and a sub gun or two. So for firepower it wasn’t too badly matched.

The early missions found us Frontoviks on the offensive trying to infiltrate the German trench lines. During one of the forays two of our brave Frontoviks were sent out on a scout and became lost. They ended up about a mile beyond the target area at a neighbor’s farm. The Farmer was kind enough to return our lost Frontoviks without any hassle. LOL!

German resistance was fierce but the valiant efforts of our Frontoviks made it possible to coordinate attacks and gain a foothold in the trench system. From there it was only a matter of time before the enemy was overwhelmed by our fierce tactics.
The Germans were not to be underestimated and made some bold moves of their own by sending men into our trench systems to wait for us to return from our offensive operations. This was very sneaky but effective. We will not be taken by this method again in the future. Crazy Dima will have surprises for them. Bwuhahahahahahhaha!

As the day drew on the ammunition was expended and fiercer fighting took place. Our valiant commander, Dimitri, did his best to offer the Germans a way out and using his mega phone tried to entice them with offers of turnips and other such treats the Soviet paradise could provide them. Sadly they did not seem interested.

At one point the enemy resorted to using one of their new deadly terror weapons to thwart our advance. It was the “reptilenwaffen eine” also known as the “R 1.” It is a close support infantry weapon which launches a live snake into the oncoming attackers. Lucky for Mother Russia the average Frontovik is not scared of snakes. Well except for Brian but that is ok. The weapon failed to stop our advance. But their machine guns did. LOL!

The day drew on and ammo became short for some while physical strength became an issue for others. So it was agreed that both sides call it a day and withdraw to fight another day.
As always a big thanks to Don King for making sure we have a great place to play.

If you have not been to this site then you need to get to it at least once to see if it something you would like to experience on a regular occasion. The next Eastern Front event will be in September.

I did not know about the snake!!! When did that happen?

It was late in the day when you and your raiding party were back in the Soviet trenches waiting fo us to return.

It was pretty funny to hear the Germans say "we have a surprise for you....we found something of yours..." Then boom here somes a snake.

I looked at the snake and it looked at me for a moment....then I pointed my Pish at it and told it to move on and so it did. LOL!

Even the snake knew it was futile to engaged Dima in battle.

Now that is funny stuff right there. I usally use a SVT Push Lawn Mower with bagger to handle fascist snakes when I mow.
