I just wanted to post a quick spaciba to all of my tovarische who came out to Marion last weekend. I especially appreciate the efforts expended by Dima of the 416th, Will and Stephanie of the 95th, and Dennis Barnes of the 343rd. Thanks for driving the distance. Unfortunately, many of our number had circumstances beyond their control that made their presence this weekend a no-go.
I'm really looking forward to January!

Tovarischi,
It was a great time!
The weather was pretty darn good and the fighting was good and hot. Numbers were pretty even.
We and roughly 15 or more Soviet troops at the event and all but two or three of them had a sub gun. In addition we had a gas fired DP-28, PTRS AT rifle and a 50mm mortar. There was also a Maxim present but it did not take the field due to technical issues.
It was good to see members of several different RKKA units. I saw Frontoviks from the 8th and 20th Guards, 95th Rifles, 343rd Rifles and 416th Rifles. We had folks travel to the site from all over the midwest including Louisiana.
It was really neat to hear the Germans complain about the fact that we had so much firepower on the Soviet side. The PPSH 41s and PPS 43s' made lots of Fritzies keep their heads down. LOL!
My compliments to Yuri and his son and the others who worked so hard on their section of the Soviet trenches. They look great and are truly functional in their role as opposed to just a backdrop. I hope to get my area looking just as good .
Hope to get phone lines installed soon along the trenches.
My mortar pit was still pretty we but I was able to make some modifications to make deployment of the mortar possible. Fired a few rounds in support but mostly took part in offensive infantry operations and digging and improving of my pit.
As always Don was a great host and the site is a wonderful place to play. If you have not been to this site then you should try to get to it at least once.
Sincerely,
Dima

Dima, You could have brought your tube up to "Fortress Stakhanov", we had a pit and no tube for the pit. In any case, it was a fun event, and I'm hoping January brings out more RKKA and German troops. Arkady has mentioned on the 8th GMC list that he is planning on reinvigorating the 8th GMC and that we will start a "rotation" of maximum effort events rotating between Marion, Zavalla, and another site in the Plains when they get one going. Those events would definitely be ones to attend, and I think worthy of extending to two-day events. Yuri

Yuri,
Next time I bring my tube and if your pit is available I will be sure to move up to fort Stakhanov since it will be a while before my pit will be up to my standards and a good field of fire.
Sincerely,
Dima

Tovarisch Dima, Let us know, and the Stakhanov family will clear it and clean it up to your specs! Spaceba for the compliment on our trenches; we still have much to do, but once we get the whole "island" deep enough, I think they will have a hard time rooting us out. Yuri
