Tovarischi;
My unit is one of many that will be attending an event on a TSA controlled airfield. Recently the TSA issued its "interpretation" of Federal policy regarding the carry of firearms on the airfield within the security zone.
One of the "interpretations" is that all firearms must be rendered incapable of chambering, and firing any live ammunition.
They issued guidelines, one of which was that firing pins should be removed from the bolt. Well as anyone with much experience with the 91/30 knows, removing the firing pin will make it impossible to keep the bolt together. this can cause "locking" of the lugs if the bolt, in this stripped condition is closed. As a result, the weapon may require the attention of an armorer to release the bolt.
Another suggestion by TSA was to plug the chamber/bore of the weapon. Depending on how you "plug" the weapon, you may permanently render the weapon unserviceable, you may damage the rifling at the chamber end of the bore, or damage the chamber itself.
I have not been able to determine whether this is a "New" policy, or simply a re-interpretation of pre-existing policy, but it is clearly not the policy as employed at other similar TSA controlled airfields.
So tell me, what, if any experience have any of you had with the TSA, and it's policies at events?

I tried looking at the Transportation Laws TSA is supposed to enforce, but my eyes started to bleed halfway through. Though the Federal government has the antithesis of the Midas touch, it might be best to try to get ahold of whatever TSA guy is running this and try to talk sense into him. Ever so tactfully of course.

Ended up not being a big deal after all.
On Saturday there were no TSA inspectors even present, and the two on Sunday, only cared about the free food.

I saw a variety of guys in uniform... were there more than one jurisdiction of cops there? like some county mounties and state troopers as well, or say, county and local town, etc? Sometimes at airshows they have Customs Officers there because some of the planes come in from Canada.

I saw NO TSA personnel on Friday, or Saturday, and only two on Sunday, and they only seemed to be interested in the free meal.
I saw a couple of "rent a cop" airport security types, but they were pretty cool.
The guys in the all black ninja suits with the bloused boots were the local township cops. Lancaster Counties own GESTAPO unit. One even was hauling his M-16A2 around on Saturday.
Other than that I saw no cops, although the township had at least three, and as many as six on duty on Saturday, and Sunday. The two "yellow Jacket" bike cops were township also.
