Tovarischi;
I am looking for an award for meritorious service, but not for a specific campaign, or battle.
Any suggestions?

Sr. Sgt., Our unit uses the Soviet medal for combat service. Aside from the Guard's badge, this is the only other "medal" as such that we wear. Members who are members of the NRA recieve and wear this in recognition of their support of the 2nd amendment, and ergo, our hobby. It is very generic, and is not associated with any particular campaign. These were given out to those soldiers who participated in successful combat operations. FWIW, YMMV,

Tovarisch Yuri;
Spaceba, however, what I am looking for is an award to issue to a member of our unit who has done an outstanding job in non-combat related activities. An award for combat service would not be appropriate under the circumstances.

Ah! I misunderstood then. Kind of like: most outstanding <whatever> award, etc. Yuri

Ah! I misunderstood then. Kind of like: most outstanding <whatever> award, etc. Yuri Well more like an award for meritorious service. If we were a U.S. unit, I know of at least five options. However, being Red Army....not sure what options I have. Boridin

I just got that Zhukov badge from a vendor in the Ukraine... it was listed as a GPW vets medal.. would that do? it has a screw back and is about the size of a Guard's Unit badge.

Well, that is a post war item, and not really a military issued "award", at least not that I am aware of.
I am looking for a war time award for meritorious service in a non-combat role.

Could it be an award the party handed out? or a labor award?

Could it be an award the party handed out? or a labor award? Vlad No I am pretty sure it is a commemorative medal. The Soviets were big on those. Give the vets "eyewash", since they were screwing them in so many other ways. The medal doesn't cost the Soviet government very much, and it really doesn't amount to much, but it makes the vet feel good, at least for awhile. It doesn't feed him, it doesn't solve his disability, it doesn't reduce his pain, but it makes him "feel" good when he pins it on his coat. Typical Socialist solution, "Symbolism, over Substance"! And weren't they still the property of the state, to be handed in on the event of the veteran's death? (I know that is not what happened necessarily, but I read this weekend that that was supposedly the rule.)

How about one of those "Excellent Skill" awards, Like "Excellent Driver" , "Excellent radioman", "Excellent artilleryman" etc, but of course matched to their specific skill? There is also an early "excellent Red Army Man" award. and the Voroshilov awards.
There were also certificates for various actions that were handed out, some of which can be seen on the collectrussia.com sale site.... something more than an extra ration of potoato juice or serving of Borsht, but less than a medal. Some were very ornate.

Tovarisch Spatula Cpl;
That is an option, I am just trying to look for all options.
As to the Voroshilov Cavalry Academy awards, they are for graduation from the Cavalry academy, and denote a skill with the horse, or weapons while mounted. Those are offered to members of our unit, after they demonstrate the necessary/appropriate skills with a horse.
Thank you for your efforts though!
