Tovarisch,
This is a very interesting item.
What is the history behind this pattern?
I have seen photos of Soviet POWS marching along with what appears to be the belt attachments which look very similar to your photo still on their belts.
Is this a pre-war/early war pattern cover?
Sincerely,
Dima

Comrades, This Rezidency has been ordered to develop ( by Moscow Centre ) an early Water Bottle cover to this pattern.. This is from a declassified Red Army Historical Document. Due to the advantages of a Centrally Controlled Command Society (with very strong Internal Security) this Iron Horse advance of Red Army Water Bottle Cover Technic has occurred because of the heroic work of the 1145th Guards Separate Water Bottle development Bureau Batt, Kent Military District, which was charged with the historic mission to develop this Complex for the advancement of World Peace/Revolution. and this is the effect.. All this completed to the laid down quota on Victory day, our most sacred day of the struggle against the Gitlerite Vandal Horde. Urrah!!. This Complex is only cleared for early GPW deployment, this Command is cleared to use it no later than 1942 when it is due to be Liquidated as part of the Western and Southern Fronts, as per quota.

This style of attachment could explain the hole drilled in the corner of some of the old style Soviet e-tools that I have. They just hooked it into the hole in the e-tool.

Comrade, That is likely an unlawful Finnish modification of trophy Soviet material taken during their Wars of Aggression against the peace loving people of the Soviet Union.

I often wondered why my old Soviet e-tool had that hole drilled in the upper part of the blade. Cool canteen cover nevertheless though. Yuri S.

So the question is, where can we get such a cover?
It might be cool to add to the overall gear pile!

Tovarischi,
Making one is on my list. The list keeps growing.
It looks pretty straight forward and I think I have dimensions on it.
You see the D ring attachments in some of the RKKA photos from Barbarossa time period.
Sincerely,
Dima
