Tovarischi,
Ok folks here is what we have on the plate before us regarding the HRS National scheduled for October at the Joliet Training Area (JTA) near Elwood, IL. First of all I realize that we have short notice of this event but that is the hand we have been dealt and I am trying to make lemonade out of lemons and hoping a shot of Vodka will do the trick. I am willing to bust my hump to make this work if you folks are willing to turn out for it.
According to Jon Stevens The Friday evening and Saturday battles are going to be Western Front Scenarios. Sunday will be an Ostfront battle scenario. Their will not be any East Meets West. After reading this I approached him and asked if the RKKA forces could use Friday and Saturday as training time for the RKKA forces and then take part in the Ostfront battle on Sunday. He has given the green light to this plan. There is the possibility of using the RETO rules for the Ostfront battle but that is not set in stone yet.
So this is what I propose. We try to assemble as many of the RKKA forces in the region to meet at this event to conduct all sorts of training and research sessions on Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday deploy to the field to engage the Hitlerites in combat. I figure that the sky is the limit as far as ideas for training. The usual bread and butter of close order drill, manual of arms etc. Plus I figure such things as hand to hand, obstacle courses and mission simulations (capture a tongue) will add to the mix. Throw in some language sessions and some exchanges of research information and we have a pretty full plate for Friday and Saturday. We will get out of it what we put into it so don‘t be shy about suggestions.
It also appears that there will be a bolstering of Soviet forces on Sunday by those Germans, GIs and Brits who do RKKA as a secondary impression. I do not have any type of numbers on that yet . However, I intend to see if I can get some sort of head count on that item.
Partisan forces(pro Soviet and anti Communist) will be incorporated in the Ostfront battle. Specs will be forthcoming on that issue.
There is a chance that the Joliet Training Area may be closed down by the time of the National. So as we speak alternate sites are being sought and there are some very good prospects in the running. Alternate sites may be secured by this weekend if all goes well.
Another idea which is seriously being kicked around is having a mortar competition at the event to see who can do the voodoo with their tubes (range, accuracy). I will keep you apprised of this as I learn more.
So please at your earliest convenience have folks from your respective units contact me to let me know if you want to give this a try and set about getting plans made and see if we can start to build some cohesion among the RKKA forces in region and give us the chance to do what we have been studying and training to do all along. Are you up for this?
Please contact me at my email address of:

I look forward to your input and your participation.
Sincerely
