Glorious Comrades of the Red Army...
Set you calendar for Saturday, February 17th, 2007. An Eastern Front only Winter Tactical has been scheduled to take place at the Indianola Bunker/Trench Battle Site.
The time frame is going to be late in the Winter of 1944-45, Poland. Thus the M43 uniform is the uniform of the event. It is also opens it up to the use of M44 carbines and other late war soviet gear.
This event is being co-hosted, and here are those details...
RUSSIANS... It is open to all russians who wish to attend. The russian host unit is the 416th. Contact Dave Pasbrig, his email is redkommissar@hotmail.com
GERMANS... The event for germans is invite only. German invites will be sent out as Russian pre-registrations are processed. The goal is to have roughly evenly matched numbers, and to avoid lop-sided 3-1 german to russian ratios.
German host unit is Grossdeutscheland (IA, MO, KS, NE). German Contact is Dave Ruffcorn and his email is turbo-we4@juno.com
WESTERN ALLIES... Sorry this event is Eastern Front only. NOT an east meets west. Please contact your local Russian unit to fall in with them. Many of them have extra uniforms and equipment they can loan.
Very important the Russian unit commanders relay numbers to the Russian Coordinator so that we can allow the germans to extend the appropriate number of invites.
More infomation will be sent out soon, and perhaps a webpage built.
A general synopsis of the site is that it is approx 3 miles south of Indianola right off the highway, no back roads to navigate. It consists of rolling hills (some very steep) with a creek wandering through it, alternating between open fields and wooded areas. The creek has points of sheer drop off which can channel your forces. The Des Moines GD unit and local GI's have been very busy and have dug many fighting positions, including rifle pits, a trench and 2 bunkers. They have more work on the site planned. The site is vehicle friendly.
Weather can be iffy. It can be really cold like in the mid 1990's or like recently when we have had mild winters with little snow cover. Lets hope for 30 degrees and 6 inches of snow on the ground. If bad weather sets in a decision will be made on the event as soon as possible and relayed to unit commanders.
Camping is available and primitive. Many hotels are in Indianola for those wishing to stay there.
A battle fee does exist. Will let you know once costs are calculated, most likely around the standard $10.
Vendors are welcome, but it would be open air set up and cramped.
So look for either a more detailed post or a website shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday. Mark you calendar, and be there or be pruged. LOL
