This is intended for the New Red Army Reenactor to the 13th Guards, and a re-Fresh for the old Red Army Reenactor. This will cover you from Post Stalingrad to the fall of Berlin -- 1943-to 1945.
RED ARMY MAN (Basic Enlisted Soldier) M 1943 Regulations.
1.) Personal Appearance:
a. Hair: will be trimmed short -- Modern US Military good Example to base off of.
b. Facial Hair: No Beards. Mustaches must be trimmed to current US Military Standards. No Go Tees, Fuumanchoos, Miami Vices, Handle Bars etc.
The Red Army was a fanatical believer in the proper use of the Razor, contraire to popular belief. By 1943/44 the Red Army had re-established "Esprit de Corp" and Military appearence was essential for the Re Army Man.
A 2 to 3 day shadow will be OK for Tactical battles, as long as it is a 2 to 3 day shadow NOT A 2 TO 3 WEEK SHADOW -- you know the difference.
2.) Uniform:
a. Headwear:
1. Helmet: M 39/40.
2. Cap: M 35/36/41 or 42 Pattern, Pilotka, Wool or Cotton.
3. Shap-Ushanka (Synthetic Fur Cap)
4. Rag Wool Type Grey Wool Watch (Stocking) Caps OK or OD Face Mask/ Ballaclava.
b. Jacket/ Shirt:
1. Gymnastioka M35/41/43 patterns (Wool or Cotton) to 43 Regulations with 43 Style Shoulder Boards, there should be NO collar tabs.
c. Trousers:
1. Sharovari M35/41/43 patterns (Wool or Cotton.)
d. Footwear/ Boots:
1. Low Quarter Boots (Brown or Black Leather) similar in style to US, British and German Low Boots of the period worn along with Leg Wraps (Putties) Wool or Cotton.
2. Jack Boots, Sapogi, Black.
e. Service belt/ Equipment belt:
1. All Brown and or Black leather or combination leather and canvas belt with open faced single tong roller buckle or converted captured German buckle. PLEASE, NO POST WAR, SOLID BRASS, NAVY OR ARMY PARADE BUCKLES -- more of a Post War Item.
f. Cold Weather Jacket/ Coats, Boots & Gloves.
1. Over (Great) Coat: Grey, WW I Pattern – NO BUTTONS! should close with Hook & eye -- 43 Rank optional.
2. Telogreika (Padded, insulted) Coat & Trousers. M-35 and M-43 patterns OK, to 43 regulations -- Rank Optional.
3. Cold Weather, Felt Boots with or without rubber soul.
4. OD or Field Gray (US WW II style) gloves and trigger finger mittens OK. OD Wool Gloves or Mittens and Rag Wool type Gloves and mittens OK.
3.) Equipment: (Less is More)
a. Ammunition pouches/ carriers, should correspond to your weapon:
1. Mosin Nagant:Leather or Noggohide type. (1-2)
2. SVT 38/ 40:Leather or Canvas Pouch. (1)
3. PPSH 41/ 43/ 44 Drum or stick: Canvas magazine Pouch. (1)
4. Grenade Carrier. (1)
5. Bread Bag. (1)
4.) Canteen/Water Bottle:
a: Metal or Glass with Cotton Cover/ Hanger.
5.) Gas Mask/Mussette bag.
a. 40/41/43 Pattern.
6.) Haversack:
a: 36, 39 & 41 Pattern, Canvas (the Meshock was typical)
7.) Camoflauge.
a. Camoufauge Oversuits the spring, summer & fall types were typically worn by Scouts and Snipers. Winter Camo was worn by all Red Army men.
b. Winter Whites as with all Soviet Camo over suits, were worn over Service Uniform.
