Not to derail the topic, but we were sitting at an LH once, and I was showing some pictures of my Iraq tour. We had been ordered to wear Nomex uniforms in our M1117's; since we were a Trans Corps unit, we received hand-me-downs. Some guys were wearing woodland camo flight uniforms, some had old-school OD green tanker coveralls, and some had tan trousers and woodland camo shirts. And we topped it all off with ACU hats. So if you're keeping score, some of us had 3 different patterns on at once...Anyhow, some reenactor I never met walked up, looked at the picture, and declared "that will never happen; the Army doesn't allow mixed uniforms." I didn't say a word. My buddies tried to explain that it was a real picture, taken by an actual soldier. But he insisted it was fake...My point is this: for some reenactors, NO amount of evidence is enough to topple their preconceived notions. Me? I just want to keep improving my impression. -Matt Thank you Andreev! Both for your service to our nation, and for making yet another point to the difference between reality, and some "Stitch Commissars" impression of reality! Boridin

For sure!
I for one have to wear a cz52 because I have problems finding helmets in XL size... if I had found a more 'accurate' helm in my size I would have, to be sure, but there you go. I always try to improve my impression, as I think we all do... but alot of these clowns in drag don't even bother to check to see if you are new to the hobby, or 'just trying it on for size', using loaners, or what problems you are having finding better gear, they just go off on a rant and strutt... and you are right, Sr Sgt, most have no time in uniform or the bush... perfumed plumed peacocks are they. A useful person would be kind enough to make inquiries and then offer assistance, but this is not what they do, they just like to strut, rant, and prance like the pooves they are.
I did German for many years and I always point to a pic I found of an SS panzer crew, they were posing next to their PZIII and they all have various mixed uniforms of various issued items from the different types of issued uniforms... a real motley crew! but they were smiling!

Vlad Yes! Thank you, this is exactly the kind of thing I have encountered since getting back into doing WWII. RKKA is my only impression, and occupies 100% of my effort. However, while my (and my son's) impression is far from perfect, it is progressing. I used to be a stitch nazi, or at least I was called something similar back in the early/mid 80's to mid 90's while I was doing CW. However, most of my inqueries were along the lines of how you suggested Vlad. I would ask the person who they were, what they were about, how long they had been working on their impression, etc. A friend of mine told me at the beginning that he got a lot of mileage by saying "Would you mind very much if I made a suggestion that I think would really take your impression far?" Whereupon, he would usually make a suggestion for a change that would cost no money, and was easily accomplished. This usually opens the door for you to later make suggestions that might cost something, but they would be more receptive. To me a lot of what I see wrong with folks' impressions has nothing to do with what they bought, or who made it, but more in how they wear it (or don't) etc. Sorry for the ramble, just my two kopecks.
