Forgive me, but this topic was raised on "That other forum". It has generated some very interesting debate. I wanted to open this topic here, just because I want to know the thoughts from here as well.
To make a long story short, several years ago, someone took an SKS, and modified it to look more like an SVT-40. While it is still an SKS functionally, it does have some SVT appearance items added.
Now, I like this concept, largely because I really do not want to take my original, no import marks, SVTs to a tactical. I would not consider such a modified weapon as acceptable for a LH event, but a tactical is different.
I also would have no compunction about putting a BFA on an SKS conversion, but would never do it to an original SVT.
So what are your thoughts.

My thoughts mirror your, famed Otryada Serzhant of the Steppes of the glorious motherland! Any opprotunity to increase the firepower of the lowly and downtrodden frontovik has my full and unbridled socialist support!
(whinnie...snort... okay, someone put the bridle back on the horse before she runs away! )
donkey nibbly bits, it got away... now whose gonna pull the mess wagon!
Back on track... I am of the general opinion that LH events are those we do for the public and the portrayal of history and as such should try to be accurate, whereas tacticals are those we do for ourselves and as such we can be more practical. No point in shorting ourselves when we are having fun... and we had better all start looking for a variety of look alikes, because there are piles of sks's out there, but few and far between SVT's. Same with the MP-44's for the Germans... there are some HK's out there converted to MP-44 look a likes, and I am all for that too for tacticals. To me, at a tactical, it is more important to create a realistic tactical experience than to worry about every little stitch. Its training, and anything that adds to the realism of training is good in my book, and that means creating realistic levels of firepower. Who wants to go to a ww2 tactical where all we have are bolt guns and inert grenade sims? Boring.
Sure, just bringing regular sks's to the field and calling them svt's would be bogus, but with the right furniture they could be brought up to snuff as carbine versions of the svt, which did in fact exist in limited quantities.
So basically, yes, for tacticals, I think its a good idea to look for conversions to save original weapons that are no longer in copious supply.
