Does any one here know where I could get field grade shoulder boards for a "kurzant", a cadet who has been seconded to a unit for the purposes of fulfilling the role of a company politruk? Thanks, as not only can I not find any, but none of my books show this to my knowledge.
Spaceba!

Yuri, I seem to remember seeing some postings regarding Soviet Cadets and there were some neat pics of them too. I keep thinking it was on one of the European forums but since I am not into cadets I did not apture the pics or study the information very closely. You might try these: www.soviet-empire.com/ussr/index.php?sid=445e79626b9f203774e8b2ffce12fac6warrelics.eu/forum/www.redarmylivinghistory.com/red-army-f14.htmlSince I am not familiar with cadets I am wondering if the Cadet would receive the standard issue boards which the politruk would have been issued? Just an educate spitball guess knowing how organizations hate to produce special items in small quantities vs using existing stocks. Sincerely, Dima

The information that I read some years ago, indicates that the cadet was issued a standard junior officers board, with no stars to denote any higher rank.

Boridin, That is what Vladimir and I were thinking too. I explained to him, and this is just my uneducated guess, is that this position would be akin to a WO position. He would be performing a specialized role that normally required an officer of some sort, but because of his age, etc. he is doing it as a cadet. He merits the rank, due to skill, but not the command authority. I may be all wet though. Dima, thanks, and I'll check those out!

Comrades, The '43 and later insignia/shoulder boards is what has me stymied. This is from Rob/Postakinik/Zayats. Read this and tell me what you think:
"For post 43 events, I would recommend he simply be an infantry Kursant seconded to a unit with the gold braided pogoni, a pistol or SMG, and a steel (post war style) belt buckle."
