Tovarischi; There is an ongoing debate over whether the Red military had, or wore sunglasses at any point during the war. Attached is a picture of a Soviet Navy destroyer, of the black sea fleet, sailing out of Sevastopol, during the defense of Sevastopol in 1941, during the opening phases of Operation Barbarossa. You will note the enlisted man, near the DSHk-38 .51 caliber AA machine gun, who is clearly wearing tinted glass glasses. Now, does this mean that everyone can wear them? No, certainly not, but it does put a serious chink in the argument by the stitch Commissars who say they didn't exist.  Boridin |

Like any country soldiers are individual persons. Some spend pay on vodka, some on cards, some on girls, and some on things to make life better for them. Sunglasses were available, they make in both soviet factories, and in German factories built in Soviet Union to hide from west. Most soldier not buy, they spend pay on other things. My Grandfather was horse soldier, he wear sunglasses all time, both summer, and winter. Many other soldier not buy at first, think to much money. After they get eye pain from brite sun, they buy also the sunglasses. Why you think you only person who know what happen in war? You there? I hope this settles the question of whether or not sunglasses were worn on the Eastern/GPW front once and for all. Just yesterday I saw another pair on line that were standard issue style Dienst-Brille types with colored lenses, and I also picked up a set of GI clip on types that will clip on to the typical circular period glasses of the time that also could have been lend lease or traded on the docks from a sailor. Sunglasses may not have been as common then as today, but were not rare, either. Sure, it would be unlikely to see EVERYONE wear them in a unit, but it would be just as innaccurate to have NO ONE wearing them. I have light sensitive eyes and need them, and as they were available then, I wear them. Period. And I am not going to stop wearing them just because a foul mouthed lobotomy patient with a pentient for atavistic behavior we call farty marty whines about it. LOL !
So once again, Leonid, spaceba for your info and insite on this topic !
