Pic of the week would be Great !
It would dress up the forum a bit, and therefore help sell it to new members, and perhaps therefore attract new members and contributors. Its fun and allows people to forward and submit pix to the forum owner-moderator, and promotes the 'treasure hunt' idea that soldats can look for pix and perhaps show odd things to support history and to undermine reenactor 'myths'. Pix rule ! and refute mythology that soldats 'always did this and never did that'.
Translation
yeah, go for it POTW is a good idea ! gives members another reason to dig and contribute.

ps
could it be pix of reenactors as well as historical pix and do they always have to be RKKA GPW pix ?

I dont see any reason why other impressions cant be used. But in small amounts as they get plenty of "face" time on the other forum.
I'd like to see more Reenactor based photos than "actual" photos of soldiers. Perhaps we can have a thing for both??
A reenactor POTW as well as a Archived photo to discuss the differences of how the equipments used, or whatever that photo offers. So we can have double the discussions towards photographs. I think it would get some great discussions going. So like this:
Pic of the week. (John Doe) Soviet Rifleman throwing grenade at machine gun nest!
Archive of the week: ( Soviet Sniper) And all his great camo, and how he wears his equipment differently!
Should spark some great convo's comrades. And get us more "out and about" on this forum.

Tovarischi,
I have set up a thread under the "Random Discussions" to receive the winning photo as photo of the month. I have just an example pic in there to give an idea of what it would look like.
Next I will get another site set up for folks to post pics as candidates and where the voting can take place.
This will keep from burning up the capacity of this site by flooding it with lots of pics.
Sincerely,
Dima

Tovarischi,
This sounds intriguing but there is going ot have to be some thought put into this since it will require time(which is already a commodity in my world) to receive pics then have hte membership sort through them and vote and then post it.
So a weekly pic is not probably a very viable option.
My suggestion would be a pic of the month. That would give time to do the voo doo we do so well.
I can set up another site where we can have folks post photos they want to have considered. Then a pole can be set up and take the vote.
Then the winner gets posted on the main site.
Saves on site capacity and bandwith.
Sincerely,
Dima

Great!! I'm totally down with that. It'll give us all something a lil extra to do. As well as not take up to much time. Plus it would keep it a little more "different" from the WW2 forum. And i think would generate a lil more convo on the photo that is chosen.
I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Illustious Dima !
Since time is a commodity for you, Kormade, and it's basically your forum/site, and you are so knowledgable about all things RKKA, why not just have us all send you jpg's via email, and you can just pick the pic you think is best and then just archive the rest on one of your 'archive' sites in a special folder we can look at ? Just trying to give you a possibly easier way to do it. That should make it a bit easier to do a pic a week. A whole month to pic apart a single pic I fear would just give the stitch commissars an excuse to pick it to death... not so much fun I think.
Do what is easiest for you to do so it is simple and hassle free to get up and running ! simple is best ! and fitting as the RKKA was a poor man's army for simple people. Sometimes the geekiness of the web creates unnecessary complexity and then a project never gets up and running due to the hassle factor and peter principle. Start simple I would say and then upgrade it over time as you are so inclined and time becomes less of an issue for you.
Just my 2 kopeks. Run with the ball however you wish as you will be doing the labor, komrade shockworker !
Za Rodinu !

I kinda like that idea. But I also like the idea of us all voting. It makes it more of "ours". Than just being chosen by one man. This way we get to more along the lines "choose" our own topic!
But yes I understand the stitch Nazi's will be all over it! Hmmm, this is more complex than thought? LOL Comrade Dimaaaaaa! He's smart he knows best! I just fuel fires and shoot where told!
Hurray for Riflemen!
