Tovarischi;
I am looking for the correct budenovka for a Cavalry NCO. I want the one that has the same shade of grey "blanket" wool as the field shinel, but with the Royal Blue cap star, and piping, as is correct for the Cavalry branch.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

Has anyone ever seen one of these?
I have seen pictures, but not an actual budenovka.

Well, I've seen summer ones at FOR, so I'm sure Alex can whip one up in wool.
Hope my two kopecks are helpful.

I did see a summer weight khaki one on Front of Russia I think a while back. Which kind of enameled or subdued star would be worn in the center of the big blue star for such a hat? if you find them, let me know as I would like to order one too!
Frankly its a bizarre looking hat and looks like the devil himself styled it, but as a collector of military hats and other goofy stuff in general, I think they are probably among the most interesting looking hats worn in the war... even as bizarre as they look. I am sure they are nice and warm though in the winter. I think the most odd flamer hat of the war has to be the Italian Bersagileri dress parade hat that looks like a Vatican father Guido Sarducci hat but with a black cockeral plume out the side. As they sing in "The Producers"... 'keep it light, keep it happy, keep it GAY!' LOL!
I am always ribbing the Bersaglieri on the Italian forums about that hat... an incredible piece of 20th Century military headgear.... a sombrero would look more manly and military than such a hat! LOL!

He has a size 59-60 one made for summer wear in khaki colored cotton with the blue star with a red enameled star inside it.
He also has the same thing (not sure the siae) which was worn by the camel cavalry that fought the Brits sometime in the Mid East but that one has a blue 6 pointed star that has the 5 point red enameled star within....
