2010 Events - Cooperation

Now that 2010 is fast approaching perhaps we should try to get a handle on what events will be of interest to the RKKA community.

Recently I have seen a lot of chatter on the other groups regarding how to refer to our events or what name to give them. To me this seems to be a lot of effort being placed upon something that should not be a real concern right now.

We need to get numbers in the field and a cohesive force which takes pride in what it does and how it looks and presents itself to the rest of the hobby in that manner.

Right now we have a problem with our image in the hobby and that needs to change.

We have some decent events to chose from but we need to support them.

Eastern Front Events:
Indianola, IA – February – Tactical!!!!-Approx. 80 acres of varied terrain plus bunkers and some trenches. Normally it has plenty of snow and is cold. You want Eastern front then this is it.

Ft. Ben, Indianapolis, IN – Tactical / Spectator-March- Large site, barracks, etc. A good place to drill, train and interact with the public. Oh and to chase Germans.

Marion, KY – January, May, September-Tactical!!!!!-Lots of acreage, lots of trenches and bunkers, great site!!!! Not for the faint of heart. This is Eastern Front.

Other Soviet Friendly events:
Camp Clark, Nevada, Missouri-January-Tactical!!!!!- lots of acreage(1 square mile training area) real umpires, MOUT site. Not a scavenger hunt. USO canteen, Barracks, etc. You have to navigate and fight at this event.

Jefferson Barracks, St Louis, MO – April – Large event with lots of spectators. Public battle. Good site for static camps and large battlefield. Good for recruiting. Good for drilling.

These are just some of the events in the Midwest we have to chose from. If we could get at least 3-4 riflemen from each unit in the region to attend these events plus the home unit to turn out in force we could have one heck of a turn out.

For example, at Ft. Ben you get the 95th Rifles to turn out in force. Then you have 3-4 riflemen each from the 8th Guards, 343rd Rifles, 416th Rifles, independents(secondary impressions). That gives you some darn good numbers. WE use the site to do some training, marching as well as fighting and exchanging research info.

At Marion the 8th & 20th Guards turn out and we get 3-4 each from 95th, 343rd, 416th, etc and you get a real nice group of RKKA in the field in trenches doing it the way it should be done.

We need to work together and get things standardized and make a cohesive force out of the RKKA re-enacting community. We need cooperation!

Your revolutionary dedication and zeal has been noted and forwarded to the authorities. With that in mind, I thought I would post something from the 8th GMC. Scott Downing is back, and has taken up the reigns of the 8th GMC, and I am all for it. When I was thinking about getting back into WWII, and particularly RKKA, back in the late 90's, Scott was nearby at Knox, and his enthusiasm was infectious. He, more than anyone else, reignited my long dormant interest in doing RKKA. With that in mind, please allow me to post this recent posting by Arkady (Scott) on the 8th GMC board. This is in reaction to some of the pissing and moaning about DOS, and in general, that I know we have all seen between groups recently:

"Before my rant below, let me say that I am shocked by the petty egotistical crap
going on amoungst the various red army groups while we try to plan for this
event. There is no group innocent and all have some blame,but dammit people, we
are doing our best to sink this event before it even starts.

SO- that said, I am taking over the gawd damned 8th Guards and going to start
running it like a real goat molesting unit. What does that mean to the various
brigades? Nothing you can't live with.

You unit leadership remains. You still have the ability to change the unit
by-laws as needed to suit your needs. You are in charge of your units. There
will be NO dues to the Corps...ever.

What am I asking for?

I want the three leaders of the various brigades to report membership numbers
and table or organization charts for their units. I want to know just what we, as
a Corps, can field if we choose too.

Second; Starting next year (2010) we will be hosting quarterly events per
brigade and an annual group event for the entire corps. Each brigade will host
yearly. It will be a 'MAX' Attendance event for all (that is to say, please
please support this event). We have Mariongrad and Zavallagrad already in place
as the best places to hold events. The 21st needs to locate an area to host a
like event when their turn comes.

Third and last- Our goals are this:

1) Each Brigade is tasked to recruit and man a Platoon sized element (of
whatever style you so wish) in whatever uniform choice you wish. Say Don King's
troops want to do a recon platoon. They would recruit to man such a thing)
Specialty Platoons do not count towards this goal, however- they are highly
supported! A platoon of 81mm Mortars, for example, or a heavy MG platoon...
2) In Two years (maybe three when we talk about it) The 8th Guards Mech will
host a NATIONAL event on par with the Berlin Event. I woulod suggest a Bagration
style campaign event (1944).
3) We work with the other red army units to build a virtual Red Army Battalion,
similar in still to the Civil War "National Regiment"
but without the ego-Putz-sucking crap of "I'm the General" etc. . . . . . . . .

I am very excited about the possibilities of this. I knew that I was part of an organization that had other, regional, brigades, but I never heard anybody mention them except in the past tense of "oh, remember back when . . . ." I was so pleased, and excited, to see some of our brethren show up from Louisiana on Friday night at Mariongrad the other weekend! Truly, these max effort events could be a lot of fun.

As for me and my house (meaning Vladimir, Sasha, and myself) we are going to look into coming up to the B-H event in March. With my work schedule at school, that is possibly the limit of how far I can travel during the school year and still make an event. ( A lot will depend on my internship program that I am having to pass for my final state certification, the crush will be then.) I'm going to have to Google Indianola and see how far a drive it is from south-central Cain-tuh-Kee to see if we can make that one.

And don't forget, Komrades, we have the very nice Odessa GPW/Ostfront event in April in Odessa NY near Watkins Glen... and the final date is up in the air (2009 was in April), we are awaiting imput from Interested RKKA units for date finalization to ensure maximum participation for the Red Army. Last year (2009) we had about a platoon of RKKA and Axis and the action was fast and furious! and the sons of the Motherland swept the field!

2009 saw the 9th Guards and 3rd Rifles in attendence, plus myself and a few partisans... let's add a few more units and show the NE Axis what we can do!
