Guys;
This is a really fun public event, the RKKA had a small group last year, and we plan to have a much larger this year. Here is the pdf www.arrowhead-mvpa.com/Waxahachie%20WW2%20Weekend.pdf
Here is the latest update on it.
Quick up date from the field...
A certain American OSS Major and German Luftwaffe (Abwher) Hauptman spent much
of yesterday afternoon meeting and discussing the upcoming Waxahachie Veterans
Weekend Nov 6th & 7th
ROGERS will be open for business!
But not as you know it - it's no longer a hotel. We talked with one of the new
owners who was on site - floors 2 &3 are business offices and the remaining 4th
floor is long term/extended suites, (think New York apartments).
Downstairs ballroom/dining room will be theater for local performances, renting
out to meetings, weddings, etc.
Barbershop in corner ajacent, front lobby meeting/lounge area. Corner Floral
shop will be coffee shop and old diner will be Italian resturant.
The owner has tentative agreed to providing a place for WW2 Vets to gather
Saturday in the front lounge area.
Texas Theater open for business!
Owner agreed to show "40s movies" Friday night and potentially Saturday.
Saturday night will be a "USO Variety Show" at 7pm and again at 9pm. We need to
get the word out and find some performers, dancers, comedians, small band, folks
who want to do skits, etc. This is a no cost affair so we need all the
volunteers we can get.
Texas Theater has an extensive menu of sandwiches, hotdogs, brats & beer, (yep,
I said beer - good luck finding a seat once the germans find this place!)
Check out www.texasmusictheater.com
Plaid Donkey owners have agreed to allow us to use their corner parking lot on
the sqaure again this year. City will provide large tent, (unless someone wants
to volunteer a large GP!) Setup Friday afternoon after 3pm.
Need plenty of volunteers to man the check in tent Saturday from 9am until 4pm -
great place to hang out, talk to the crowds, show off your impression, etc.
Would appreciate a couple vehicle folks as well as reenactors.
Please send email to PattonsAide@... if you can volunteer an hour or
two...
Oktoberfest at the College Street Pub, (Universitadt Strasse Hoffbrauhaus)
Friday night 5pm - whenever the pub shuts down.
German menu and German beer.
Allied & German Historical Camps in the same place as last year - need
Commanders for both, (mainly act as POC for City Parks & Rec folks, act as "host
' -similar to foks at most Texas State Parks).
Blackmarket - street vendors
Here's a chance to sell your wares, set up a booth and pitch new memebership for
your club, group, etc. Need as many folks as possible to fill up 2 or 3 blocks
worth of booths. No fee!
Vendors please contact JSmith or Awillianson @ waxahachie.com
Ellis Country Museum
Need someone or some group to setup WW2 related display in the museum over the
weekend, (or even the entire week).
Please contact PattonsAide@... if you'd like to assist. We've have
several excellent displays over the last few years and this tends to be a real
highlight for locals, vistors from DFW, other parts of Texas.
Photographers/Film folks please contact PattonsAide@...
FLIKR folks attended last year and were looking to place them with individual
units before and during the battle.
Visit the FLIKR site and see some of their outstanding work.
We'll have 2 squads of MPs this year, (Tentative 1st Division & 45th Division).
I've meet these folks this last year at several events and they're quite
impressive. MP HQ will be the front lobby of the Texas Theater, (the owner said
to remind folks not to talk during the show or you might meet up with an MP
stick). Any reeanctor wishing to assist the MPs throughout the weekend please
contact TLegler@... the Provost Marshall. He will put you to work.
Antique vehicle owners/clubs please contact PattonsAide@... or
SImone1940s@...
Anything before 1950 welcome - two blocks on the square have been reserved for
antique autos Saturday 10am until 5pm
Only Antique Military vehicles and civilian vehicles will be allowed on the
square Saturday so you should have plenty of excellent photo opporutnties w/o
modern distractions.
Planning on mulitple convoys into town Friday and Saturday. For folks in the
North Dallas/Dallas area please contact Dave Austin
For Grandview/South Ft. Worth Charles Varner. From Convention Center to Town
Sqaure Saturday morning, Arrowhead MVPA.
Pushing hard to have all MVPA chapters across Central Texas Particpate,
(Arrowhead, Red River, 6th Cav, etc. apologize if I missed any chapters).
Please contact Arrowhead and/or PattonsAide@...
A short list of particiapting hotels will be sent out in the near future.
That's all for now - more to come.
This year ought to be even better than last!
P.S. GET THE WORD OUT!
Spectators, visitors & families invited, (we had 8-10000 last year).
Get them to dress up and become part of event!
