Ok comrades,
I have a good knowledge base of red army uniforms wartime, however I want to put together a red army impression from the time of the Afghani invasion. I have the AK already, so the rest should be easy and inexpensive.
I think Alex should be able to get it for me, but what do I need to ask him.
Oh it would be a standard field impression, regular infantry or mechanized.
Thanks in advance

Spaciba Tovarishch!
Yes I have seen their site. Wish they had more uniforms. I found the photos of what I want. Alex should be able to get what I want. Now it's just a matter of cash. LOL
It's always with the cash. So many toys, so little money. D'oh
Thanks again.

Technical question for anyone else doing this impression.... The khaki tabs that are on uniforms as they come, do I take these off to put full color ones on, or put them over? I'm assuming insignia should be machine sewn, or did men even have access to sewing machines? I know it varies according to the order of dress, and I'm assuming the average soldier didn't have many sets of uniforms.

Without looking at the individual type of uniform, my first shot would be that they are subdued tabs. Those should be left as is, either worn with a subdued branch of service insignia, or as sometimes is seen, brass.
Now my second shot and less likely is similiar to how the insignia is put on greatcoats. With Glue. Backdating modern greatcoats to WWII era the coloured boards and tabs are glued onto the backing that is sewn to the coat.
If you are looking to replace the subdued tabs with coloured, then yes, they should be sewn on.
Does that make sense? LOL

Yea, I'm just replacing the subdued with full color for a "Motor rifles in the Soviet Union-late 70's/early 80's" impression. The uniform is the Khaki cotton 1969 pattern. I know individual soldiers had to change out the insignia on thier greatcoats themselves, but I didn't know if the cotton stuff was also done by the soldiers, or properly machine sewn prior to issue. being used to western stuff I can't imagine anything being hand sewn, but I also know that the Soviet soldier had a pretty skimpy uniform issue and sometimes had to make due...
